Joanne Robertson is a musician and painter. She collaborates regularly with friends, most recently with Dean Blunt on Backstage Raver and Sidsel Meineche Hansen on Alien Baby.
In 2018 she moved to Glasgow after having lived in London. Both her painting and music emerge from improvisatory moments of expression. Her critically acclaimed album Blurrr, released via AD 93 in 2025, was written between painting sessions and while raising a child. Loose and playful in its intuition, Robertson’s vocals and guitar drift, murmur, and whisper across the record, fostering a deep intimacy as unknown emotions rise up from the well.
Her previous album Blue Car is a collection drawn from an archive of unreleased solo recordings. Like Painting Stupid Girls, the songs attempt to capture a specific moment, and where she was emotionally on a given day, much like diary entries. The exact dates she wrote the songs are unknown, but they span roughly a ten-year period.
